The Gospel of Matthew introduces Jesus Christ as the promised Messiah, the Son of David, and the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. Written by Matthew the apostle—a former tax collector called by Jesus Himself (Matthew 9:9)—this Gospel bridges the Old and New Testaments and reveals Jesus as the One who came not to destroy the Law, but to fulfill it (Matthew 5:17). Matthew carefully shows that Jesus is the long-awaited King, whose birth, ministry, death, and resurrection complete God’s redemptive plan (Matthew 1:22–23; 2:5–6).

Throughout this book, readers encounter the teachings of Christ in powerful and life-shaping passages such as the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5–7), the parables of the Kingdom (Matthew 13), and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18–20). Matthew highlights key truths about Jesus’ identity, including Peter’s confession: “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16).
